Sgt. Troy Donaldson has retired on disability, leaving a vacancy in the Amherst police command structure.
Now chief Joseph Kucirek is looking to promote a patrolman to fill the patrol sergeant position.
He asked the Civil Service commission Monday to change up the way promotions are made. There will still be a written test of management, Ohio law, and departmental policy knowledge; what’s different is that Kucirek proposed hiring an outside firm to analyze what candidates have the best leadership, motivational, and decision-making skills.
A final grade would include commendations, years of experience, special training, and other qualifications.
