Weak winter weather expected this week
To combat snow and ice, Amherst city plow-drivers lowered their blades this weekend for the first time since March.
It’s been one of the warmest winters in recent memory and no white Christmas — all thanks to La Niña, an oceanic phenomenon that tinkers with the jet stream.
“Over the last month or so, the jet stream is further north than it typically is this time of the year. That means we’ve had warmer air hanging over us here,” said Gary Garnet, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Cleveland.
The National Weather Service changed its extended outlook overnight, calling for one to three inches of snow tomorrow (Thursday) and showers Saturday before another big warm-up that could see low-50-degree temps on Tuesday.
