Downtown mural seen by 2.3M readers
American Legion Magazine this month features a two-page article on the World War II mural created by Amherst artist Mike Sekletar.
The article can be viewed online at www.legion.com.
In its print form, the magazine goes to 2.3 million readers each month.
The mural is an enormous painted replica of the Pulitzer Prize-winning photograph taken by Joe Rosenthal in 1945, showing servicemen raising a flag on the island of Iwo Jima.
“I wanted to give back to veterans, and for me that’s through art and painting,” Sekletar told Legion writer Cameran Richardson.
