100,000 pennies for their thoughts
When a favorite Firelands teacher was injured in a Nov. 22 car crash, student council came to his aid.
In recent weeks, Falcons teens have collected more than 100,000 pennies to go toward a benefit fund for Jim Muth, 39, who remains in a coma at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
“He’s in everyone’s life. Even if you haven’t had him as a teacher, you know who he is and you get along with him. We all love him,” said student council president Rebecca Kozlowski, a senior.
Combined with donations of larger coins, the students gave nearly $2,000 toward Muth’s family and recovery expenses. They put the cash in a fund last week at FirstMerit Bank on Cleveland Avenue in downtown Amherst.
Muth teaches history as well as a global politics college prep course. He’s also the Falcons varsity football announcer and middle school volleyball coach.
